Glitter and Glo Event at SWINA!
Seasons come and seasons go… find your GLO all year round here at SWINA! Fun events are always happening at Southwest Institute of Natural Aesthetics, otherwise known as SWINA. The annual Glitter and Glo Event on Dec. 3, 2011 featured Glo Minerals makeup and products. It was a smashing success, and thank you to all who attended and participated in this lovely, holiday event!
We had around 40 lovely participants. Another highlight of the event was working with Caroline, the MakeUp Artist from Glo. She offered many tips and trick to our students and clients as well. The focus of this gorgeous gathering was Seasonal Colors - what is yours!? If you’d like to find your seasonal color, drop in the SWINA’s Student Spa for a facial or body treatment, or come in to simply get color matched with some of our amazing products.
Dave Waggoner, Director of Education, shares his insights:
“When SWINA hosts an event like this, not only do our customers benefit from great discounts, but our students get real-life workplace experience by working with live products on the consumers who buy them. It’s a win-win for everyone!”

On behalf of SWIHA Success Center, we thought it would be nice to share some current statistics with you, just in case you are curious as to where you, or the industry you are interested in, currently stand!
Massage Therapists
Personal care services - A small increase is expected due to an increasing number of dedicated massage clinics in the personal care services industry.- Offices of chiropractors - A small increase is expected as massage therapy and bodywork are integrated into wellness treatments.
- Hotels (except casino), motels, and all other traveler accommodations - A small increase is expected as more hotels offer massage therapy services.
- Fitness and recreational sports centers - A small decrease is expected as fewer sports centers employ massage therapists.
- Offices of all other health practitioners - A small increase is expected as massage therapy and bodywork are integrated into wellness treatments.
Notice that the term “bodywork” is being used in addition to massage therapy!
Skin Care Specialist
- Personal care services - A moderate
increase is expected as skin care establishments expand faster than the industry as a whole.
- Offices of physicians - A small increase is expected as more doctors, primarily those involved in cosmetic procedures, employ skin care specialists.
Please understand that we do NOT train “Counselors;” we provide solid ground in Hypnotherapy Training & Life Coaching Training as growing career paths.
Mental Health Counselors
Outpatient mental health and substance abuse centers - A small increase is expected as these workers are preferred over more expensive psychologists.
- Residential mental retardation facilities - A very large increase is expected as these workers are preferred over more expensive psychologists.
- Offices of mental health practitioners (except physicians) - A moderate increase is expected as these workers are preferred over more expensive psychologists.
- Offices of physicians - A moderate increase is expected as these workers are preferred over more expensive psychologists.

Help SWIHA & SWINA Support Aunt Rita’s AIDS 5K Walk/Run
Every Step Counts for the Aunt Rita’s AIDS Walk Phoenix & 5K Run! Help SUPPORT the cause!
Join Southwest Institute of Healing Arts’ efforts as SWINA’s Director of Student Operations (Charlie Queeno) runs on Sunday, October 2, 2011 in the Aunt Rita’s Aids Walk/Run. Donate and receive an exclusive “SCRATCH & WIN” ticket for discounts towards future products and services! SWINA will match dollar for dollar ALL donations given and will present Aunt Rita’s foundation with a check.
To support the cause, donation stations can be found at SWINA (where Scratch & Win tickets are given), SWIHA front desk and SWIHA clinic (tickets not given), and SOY.
The AIDS Walk may have disappeared from Phoenix for a bit – but HIV/AIDS had not. Now that it’s back, we are proud to participate. Infection rates are on the rise, and our communities, especially the Latino and African American community, have experienced alarming increases in the number of people testing positive for HIV. More people need care than ever before, but federal and private funding for medical care and supportive services continues to decline. The lack of HIV education and awareness throughout our community only makes the number of new HIV cases increase. More than ever, our community needs AIDS Walk Phoenix & 5K Run.
