Flexible Thinking

Last year my boss gave each member of his team a holiday gift; a small-sized Slinky Toy. Yes, a miniature of the original Slinky.  Remember the song? ”What walks down stairs, alone or in pairs and makes a slinkity sound?  A spring, a spring, a marvelous thing!  Everyone knows it’s Slinky!”  Okay well I remember it and  am dating myself.   The gift did not come along with a speech or even a hint of whether the Slinky should have meaning.  However, being one who loves to look for signs and meaning in everyday life, something metaphorical about that Slinky hit me.  This wonderful little toy—a simple spring—is all about flexibility.  I keep it on my desk as a reminder to be flexible.

Now, a large part of what SWIHA does is Yoga Teacher Training, and yoga is very much about flexibility–literally; nurturing flexibility in the muscles, joints and ligaments, and figuratively; flexing the mind and spirit into a deep state of clarity and relaxation.  If you have not tried the yoga classes at SWIHA, I highly recommend them.  But it is a different flexibility that I am striving for as I occasionally pick up the Slinky and let it do it’s Slinky magic, zinging from one upturned palm to the other.  It is flexible thinking.

Too often I find myself entrenched in my routine. Whether it is daily life, work or problem solving, it is so easy to find solutions in the repetition of ‘how it was done before’.   We tend to be creatures of habit, so that typically we get into a rut of behavior, so when this happens, we do that, or when we need to get to that place, we go this way. It also tends to frame our personal and spiritual beliefs so that we can comfortably say to ourselves and others, we believe this, not that.  Sure, I believe in convictions and do agree with the old adage, ‘If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it’. But if something is broke, or needs improvement, focus, a better direction, refreshing, renewing, expansion, or a dozen other types of possible betterment, why not take a look at it a new way? Why not mix it up? Open our minds to all of the possibilities?

And with the advent of so much technology all around us, the possibilities are expanding like the universe.  That brings me to examine a new possibility that ties in technology and perhaps a new, flexible approach to the therapies of Life Coaching and Hypnotherapy.  Back to flexible thinking; these therapies are often successful routes to solving problems in new ways, seeking and finding elusive answers to pressing issues within ourselves, rather than expecting to find the way to fix problems outside of ourselves.  Now, imagine the possibilities that technology can contribute by accessing a Life Coach or Hypnotherapist for a one-on-one session in a new way; online?  I know it is hard to imagine, but it is possible.  So, in order to show you that it really can be done, we videotaped a real, full, online hypnotherapy session.  We used two cameras in two different locations, synced the video together and inserted a screen capture of the session. To view the video, just click here.

So here’s some flexible thinking: why not try one of these online sessions yourself? And as if it couldn’t get anymore amazing, SWIHA is offering these online therapy sessions complimentary until June 7th. For details about Hypnotherapy, Life Coaching and SWIHA’s Mind-Body Wellness Program, click HERE.   To schedule an appointment for an online Hypnotherapy or Life Coaching session, send an email to Linda Bennett at lindab@swiha.net.

Life Coaching and Hypnotherapy online is real, and the possibilities are endless.  So how about exercising some flexible thinking and give it a try? In the meantime, I’m going to go play with my Slinky.
