2012: A Time for Change
C Krysten was intrigued and clicked it. The link brought her to a site about a film called 2012: A Time for Change. It’s a documentary that “presents an optimistic alternative to apocalyptic doom and gloom” about the 2012 predictions that have been presented in some mainstream disaster movies. Directed by Emmy Award nominee João Amorim, this film delves into the search for a new paradigm that integrates the archaic tribal 2012 wisdom with modern theories of a transformational phenomenon. The documentary calls for a regenerative culture of collaboration, exploration, and spirit.
Krysten was inspired and says, even though she is a novice on the sustainability issue and has never held a similar event, she feels guided to host screenings of the film and share its message. Krysten told me “I felt a nudge or push to do this. I was totally guided to this event. Spirit-driven, absolutely.” So she started contacting people about getting a venue to screen the film, started a meetup.com group and now is a hub for a community of people who share a common passion for the main message of the documentary. Krysten is sending out press releases, posting the event on community calendars, and using social media to generate interest and ticket sales. The project has taken on a life of its own.
She invested a considerable amount of her own money; $420 to purchase the license to screen the movie and $250 to rent the venue and equipment to project it. Tickets sales at $9 each will help Krysten recoup some of the cash she’s put out, but clearly it is not about money. “It’s about creating sustainability individually and internally so we can reflect that externally. The intention of this documentary screening event is to tap into and utilize the strength of collective consciousness in order to effect the powerful change which our community, our world and our universe needs.” Says Aldridge. “(The film) demonstrates how we can redesign post-industrial society on ecological principles to make a world that works for ALL! With so much focus on 2012, NOW is the perfect time to offer solutions and gain some momentum in creating and maintaining awareness and action. It is time to step into our greatness, and do our individual parts to make it happen…It is all about igniting a spark!”
After the screening, there will be guest speakers and a facilitated Q & A to help keep the fire lit! Guest speakers will include Kathy Gould (Herbalist, SW Herb Shop), Greg Peterson (The Urban Farm), and Dennis McClung (The Garden Pool).
