Before attending any Yoga Teacher Training (YTT) program or SOY studio class, this is encouraged, but not mandatory. Wayne Hoffman, Operations Manager at SOY, says, many people think beginners to yoga (especially men) look at it the same, almost like learning to dance – they are often embarrassed, worried about form, intimidated, etc. However, none of the above should even cross your mind. ’Intro to Yoga,’ like all studio classes at SOY, are presented and taught in a natural, encouraging, ‘what works for you’ environment – as it should! These yoga studio classes provide a safe environment for anyone and everyone to be at ease. No yoga is the right way – your yoga is the right way if it serves you!
Aradhana Kaur, the manager of the Yoga Studio in Tempe at Spirit of Yoga invites ALL to come and give it a try for yourself. Don’t let excuses stand in your way any longer – listen to your inner voice that is craving some yoga! ~ Blessings ~ Call 480-838-3379 for details! :)
Aromatherapy with Yoga – The Magical Combination
Although science has not always fully appreciated Alternate Medicine or Holistic Therapy, scientists have been unable to write away Yoga for its tremendous benefits. Yoga works by using the mind force in combination with your physical strength to regulate the flow of life in the body and bring about a balance. The life force passes through seven chakras, cleansing them and relieving your body of stress and other diseases.
Recently, it has been found that combining Aromatherapy With Yoga produces amazing results! There are a number of oils that produce same results as yoga, but the combination of yoga and aromatic oils has truly been beneficial. Given below are a list of Essential Oils that can be used in combination with yoga:
Lavender oil – Lavender has been known to have soothing properties. When the oil is used at the time of practicing yoga, it relaxes and soothes the mind.
Ylang Ylang – This oil teases your senses with its elusively sweet smell. It is known to cure insomnia, uplift moods and enhance the libido. It also provides relief from medical conditions such as high blood pressure and increases self-confidence.- Lemongrass – It is essentially used to relax the mind. When you practice yoga and meditation with this oil, you will feel an upliftment of mood and feel happier. Your tensions will dissolve and you will feel ready to face the day.
- Myrrh – This oil has been related to spirituality. When this oil is diffused in the room where yoga is to be practiced, it connects the base and crown chakras, resulting in serenity. Scientifically, this oil aids in soothing the central nervous system.
- Sweet Orange – Everyone experiences fears from time to time and aromatherapy has given the world sweet orange to fight the rational or irrational fear that you may feel. It fills the room with the fragrance of summer and lifts up the mood. When used in combination with yoga, it helps to clear all self doubts. You will feel refreshed and rejuvenated.

Unlike many therapies, the benefits of yoga in combination with aromatherapy are long term. It is believed that to truly benefit the positive effects, you have to practice it for at least 21 days. You will start feeling better and will notice the benefits of Aromatherapy and the physical exercise at the end of this period.

Afraid of Yoga? Does That Make Me a Yoga-Phobic?
I don’t know about you, but I for one have been intimidated by Yoga my whole life.
This, I realize, is completely unfounded and sort of irrational – especially when I can’t remember meeting a single “Yogi” I haven’t liked. They all seem to have a certain peace about them and are more than welcoming – and that I like very much.
So where does this fear come from? Well I guess one worry that knocks around in my head is that I will ‘do it wrong,’ or get stuck in a pose that I can’t get out of. (I realize this is totally ridiculous but don’t you remember your mom telling you if you made that silly face again it would stick that way?)
When voicing my concerns to several people, they have reassured me that Yoga isn’t judgmental, it’s not a competition-it’s not a race. And, to be totally honest, the more I hear – the more intrigued I am…I just can’t yet picture myself doing any of those difficult to maneuver poses like you see on posters or television.
I guess, like anything in life, you need to start with the basics first – establish the building blocks before you move any further.
With this said, I think I am going to tackle my uncertainty head on with some of the beginning level Yoga classes at Southwest Institute of Healing Arts. If you have been curious or maybe even slightly apprehensive like me- why not see what it’s all about for yourself?
